Early start
For a road trip west, leaving early is worth it. Distances in Curaçao are not huge, but stops, photos and slower roads take time, and beaches and nature areas are cooler and often quieter in the morning. Refuel first, take water, swim gear and sunscreen, and download the route offline.
Playa Lagun
Playa Lagun is a compact cove between rocky walls, and it works especially well as the first swim or snorkel stop of the day. Enter from the beach and explore the rocky sides rather than the sandy center; that is where the underwater scenery is usually more interesting. The bay is small, so an early visit feels calmer and makes parking easier.
Plan roughly two or three hours if you want to snorkel without rushing. Bring water, sun protection and your own mask if snorkeling matters to you. From here, continue north toward Grote Knip rather than backtracking.
Grote Knip
Grote Knip is the classic west-coast scenery stop: first take in the bay from above, then head down for a proper swim. The broad water makes it easy to spend longer here than at Playa Lagun, while snorkeling is best saved for the rocky edges when conditions are calm. Bring your own drinks and shade if you plan to stay for a few hours.
Westpunt
Use Westpunt as the slow middle of the road trip rather than another box to tick. This is a good point for lunch, an extra cove or simply a break from driving. If Playa Lagun and Grote Knip already gave you enough beach time, do not force in another swim just because it is nearby.
Plan around Sol Food
Sol Food is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday for lunch and dinner. If those days match your road trip, it is an easy stop to build into the Westpunt part of the route rather than leaving lunch to chance.
Combine with Shete Boka
Add Shete Boka when you want a real change of scenery after the beaches. The exposed north coast is hotter and rougher than the sheltered swimming bays, so proper shoes, water and sun protection matter. An early road-trip start gives you the option to include a few viewpoints without turning the afternoon into a race.
You do not need to cover every trail. A shorter visit focused on the easiest viewpoints can still show the rugged side of Curaçao and leaves enough energy for the drive back.
Return drive and sunset
Do not schedule the return too tightly. After a full day of swimming and driving, one calm final stop is usually better than rushing through three more beaches. If you stay for sunset, choose the final west-coast viewpoint in advance and drive back carefully after dark, when some roads outside Willemstad are less brightly lit.
