Day 1 and 2: arrive, settle in and explore Willemstad
Treat Willemstad as a walking day rather than a driving route. Park once and connect the districts on foot. Punda and Otrobanda face each other across St Anna Bay, while Pietermaai is particularly good for lunch, dinner and evening atmosphere. The side streets often contain the murals, small shops and quieter terraces.
Late afternoon is often worth a second visit to the city. Daylight is best for architecture and shops; around sunset the temperature drops and terraces and restaurants become livelier. If you only visit Willemstad once, you may miss that evening atmosphere. Do not combine a full city day with a long west-coast road trip; both deserve their own pace.
Day 3: Mambo Beach, Sea Aquarium and the surrounding area
A beach is more than the color of the water. Shade, entrance fees, loungers, toilets and food determine whether it works for two hours or a full day. For snorkeling, rocky edges are often more interesting than the middle of a sandy bay. Arrive early for easier parking and bring water shoes for rocky entries.
Bring your own water for a beach day and check whether the beach has an entrance fee, toilets and food. Some natural coves have very few facilities; that is part of the charm, but it requires a little preparation. If you want to take photos and then swim, a waterproof pouch for your phone and car key is useful.
Day 4: road trip to the west coast
Keep the route logical: combine nearby places and choose no more than one major activity per day. A west-coast day is not about ticking off five beaches; two good coves, lunch and one nature stop usually feels better. Start early and keep the return flexible so you can stay longer when a place turns out to be a favorite.
Download an offline map of Curaçao before you leave. Mobile coverage is generally good, but an offline route is useful when you are looking for a small road to a cove. Refuel in time when heading west and check whether roadside assistance is included in the rental conditions. Distances are not large, but traffic around Willemstad can add time.
Day 5: Christoffelpark or Shete Boka
For nature days in Curaçao, start early. The midday sun is strong and exposed parts of the north coast offer little shade. Carry more water than you think you need and wear proper shoes. Check current opening hours and access rules before leaving; they matter more than the short-looking distance on a map.
Day 6: Klein Curaçao
A day trip to Klein Curaçao takes most of the day. Boats usually leave early, you spend several hours around the white beach and lighthouse, and return later in the afternoon. Choose the operator mainly by boat comfort, group size and what is included, especially if you are sensitive to seasickness.
Days 7 to 10: Jan Thiel, Blue Bay and time to revisit favorites
Do not use the final days to tick off ten more places. Jan Thiel works well for beach, restaurants and water activities, while Blue Bay is an easy option for a calmer beach and snorkeling day. Keep at least one flexible day so you can return to a favorite beach, spend longer in Willemstad or simply do nothing for an afternoon.
- With young children, avoid scheduling the west coast and a nature-park day back to back.
- Do not book Klein Curaçao for your first full day; give yourself time to settle in.
- Visit Willemstad at least once by day and once in the evening.
- A rental car is especially useful for Westpunt, Shete Boka, Christoffelpark and smaller coves.
- Leave one day open for a favorite beach or a spontaneous repeat.
Our practical take
With ten days, there is no need to rush. Divide the trip between Willemstad, the southeast, the west coast, one boat or nature day and plenty of relaxed beach time.
