Passport and the Digital Immigration Card
U.S. travelers need a valid passport for Curaçao. Before your trip, complete the Digital Immigration Card online for each traveler. Keep the submitted confirmation available digitally or as a printout when you arrive.

USD, cards and tipping
U.S. dollars are widely accepted, while Curaçao also uses the Caribbean guilder. Most hotels, restaurants and stores accept cards, but keeping some cash is useful for smaller attractions, gas stations and taxis.
Tipping is more flexible than many Americans expect. A service charge may already appear on the bill, and that is separate from an optional additional tip. Check the bill first instead of automatically adding the same percentage you would at home.
Your U.S. plugs usually work
Standard outlets are generally Type A, the same two-pin plug used in the United States, with 110–130V power. Some hotels also have 220V outlets, so check the label before connecting a device that is not dual-voltage.
For a shorter trip, your resort location matters a lot
If you only have five to seven nights, choose a base that matches how you actually want to spend your days. Mambo Beach is easy for beach + restaurants, Jan Thiel is strong for resort life and evenings out, and Willemstad works well when you want culture and dining within reach.
A beachfront resort can be worth paying more for when it saves you daily driving and gives you an easy “do nothing” day between excursions.
Do you need a rental car?
Not for every vacation day. If you stay around central Willemstad, Mambo or Jan Thiel, you can plan some days without one. But a car becomes very useful for Westpunt, Shete Boka, Christoffelpark and beach-hopping along the west coast.

Weather: think Fahrenheit, but do not panic about a rain icon
Curaçao stays warm year-round. Our English weather page defaults to Fahrenheit and mph, with a Celsius switch if you prefer it. Brief local showers are common enough that a rain symbol does not automatically mean a lost beach day.
How many days should you plan?
Five to seven nights is a very workable first trip: enough time for Willemstad, one full west-coast day, a few beaches and at least one slower resort day. If you only have five days, resist the urge to cross the island every day.
