Arrival
After landing in Curaçao, you pass immigration, collect your luggage and continue through customs. Complete the mandatory Digital Immigration Card before you travel and keep the confirmation on your phone. Have the address of your accommodation ready as well, so you can go straight to your rental car, taxi or transfer after arrival.
CUR is a relatively compact airport, but immigration and baggage times vary. Avoid booking a restaurant or excursion immediately after landing. Especially after a long-haul flight, it is more comfortable to keep the first evening simple: check in, eat something and settle into the island rhythm.
Baggage
Collect checked luggage after immigration. Keep medication, travel documents, valuables and preferably a change of light clothes or swimwear in your hand luggage. If a suitcase is delayed, you can still start your first hours in Curaçao comfortably.
If luggage is missing or damaged, report it to your airline's baggage handler before leaving the arrivals area. Keep your baggage tag and boarding pass. For the return flight, check your airline's current weight limits, cabin-bag dimensions and rules for special baggage in advance.
Rental car
If you want to explore Curaçao by car, collecting one at or near the airport is often the easiest start. Official rental counters are next to the Arrivals Hall, while other approved companies operate shuttle services. Check exactly where your car is collected and whether a shuttle is required after landing.
Inspect the car together with the rental company and photograph existing damage, fuel level and mileage. Check the deposit, insurance, excess and fuel policy too. Save the route to your hotel offline before departure; this is particularly useful after an evening arrival.
Taxi and transfer
Not collecting a rental car? Pre-book a transfer or use an official airport taxi. Confirm your destination and the fare before leaving when the price has not already been agreed. Uber and Lyft are not standard transport options on Curaçao.
A pre-booked transfer is especially convenient for families, larger groups or late arrivals. Ask in advance about child seats and provide your flight number so the operator can account for delays. If you stay mainly in Willemstad or a resort area, you can also rent a car only for selected island days.
SIM and money
There is no need to exchange a large amount of cash immediately at the airport. Curaçao has used the Caribbean guilder (Cg) since 2025, pegged to the US dollar. Cards are widely accepted, but some cash is useful for taxis and places where card payment is unavailable.
For mobile data, check whether your home plan covers Curaçao, activate an eSIM beforehand or arrange a local SIM. Download your accommodation address and an offline map before flying, so your first journey does not depend on mobile data working immediately.
Departure day
Check your flight status and your airline's recommended airport arrival time the day before departure. Many airlines offer online check-in. If you have checked baggage, allow time for bag drop; passengers with hand luggage only may be able to proceed more quickly depending on their airline and documents.
Return a rental car well before you want to enter the terminal and allow time for refuelling, inspection and any shuttle. Immigration and security follow. Liquids in cabin baggage are limited to containers of 100 ml, with exceptions including necessary medication and baby food. CUR advises passengers to check their own airline's counter opening time rather than relying on one universal arrival time.
