First time in Curaçao: how to plan a trip that fits you

Visiting Curaçao for the first time? Learn where to stay, how many days to plan, whether to rent a car and how to combine beaches, nature and Willemstad.

Where should you stay on a first trip?

Start with the rhythm you want. Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel are easy if you want beach, restaurants and facilities close together. Willemstad and Pietermaai suit travellers who like walking, dining and city atmosphere. For quiet and west-coast beaches, look towards Bandabou or Westpunt.

How many days do you need?

For long-haul travellers, 7 to 10 days usually feels comfortable. A week gives you time for Willemstad, a west-coast day, several beaches, nature and perhaps Klein Curaçao without filling every day.

Do you need a rental car?

Not every hour of your holiday, but it is very useful if you want to explore beaches, Christoffel Park, Shete Boka and Bandabou independently. Staying mainly around Willemstad, Mambo or Jan Thiel means some days can work without a car.

What should you book ahead?

Sort your accommodation and transport first. Then choose two or three experiences you really do not want to miss. Leave the rest flexible: Curaçao is at its best when you can stay longer at a bay you love.

A balanced first week

Think in types of days: one Willemstad day, one west-coast road trip, one nature day, one boat or snorkel day and several slow beach moments. You see plenty without turning the holiday into a checklist.
